Make

Automation platform billed in credits, with a free plan of 1,000 credits a month.

Verdict

Is Make's credit-based pricing a good fit for automations with many steps?

Make bills by credits, with most actions using one, and lists a Free plan of 1,000 credits a month. Paid prices depend on the credit volume you choose, and companies under 20 employees can check for a 50% Start-up discount on Business.

Who should consider it. Consider it if you want to build scenarios with branching and want an API to manage them.

Start here: first steps with Make

Editorial guidance based on the vendor details we recorded. We have not tested Make, and we do not describe its screens or settings.

Who should start with it
Multi-step scenarios where you want to pay by the credit and manage the platform through an API.
Before you create an account
  • Pick one real job, for example "Automate apps and workflows", and prepare invented or non-sensitive input for the first try.
  • Read the vendor's data and privacy terms. Our privacy review checklist lists what to look for.
  • Commercial-use terms: we have not verified them. Read the vendor's terms for the plan you will use.
Which plan to start with
Start on the free plan. The limits we recorded: 1,000 credits a month; 1 MB data storage; 1 data store.
A first small task
Try a small version of a real case like this one: A small team prototyping a scenario on the free credits before choosing a paid volume.
How to tell whether it helps
Time the job by hand first. Then record minutes taken, minutes of editing and credits or usage used. Use the trial scorecard.
Common first-week mistakes
  • Spending credits or usage on experiments without noting how much one job used.
  • Building a routine on a free limit that resets daily or never, without checking which.
  • Putting private or customer data in before reading how the vendor handles it.
When to consider another tool
  • Anyone who wants a flat monthly price regardless of steps: credit use grows with each module run.
  • Anyone who needs plan prices before contacting anyone: the price depends on the credit volume selected in a calculator.

Alternatives: Zapier, n8n. Reasons to switch.

What Make actually does

  • Builds automated workflows called scenarios that move and transform data between apps.
  • Counts one credit for most actions, including reading, searching, creating, updating, deleting and transforming data. Error handlers and the Router use none.
  • Offers more than 300 REST API endpoints to manage and automate the platform, and Custom Apps for services with a public API.
  • Queues incoming webhooks while credits are exhausted and processes them once credits are added.

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

Good fits

  • A small team prototyping a scenario on the free credits before choosing a paid volume.
  • A startup under 20 employees checking the Start-up Plan.

Scenarios are illustrative, based on plan limits and documented features.

Consider alternatives if

  • Anyone who wants a flat monthly price regardless of steps: credit use grows with each module run.
  • Anyone who needs plan prices before contacting anyone: the price depends on the credit volume selected in a calculator.

Practical workflows

Illustrative: built from documented features, not from testing.

Log new leads and notify the team

Outcome: A scenario that records each lead and posts an alert

  1. Create a scenario with a trigger that fires when a new lead arrives.
  2. Add modules that write the lead to a spreadsheet and send a team message.
  3. Estimate credits: most modules count as one credit per run.
  4. Watch your monthly credit use so the scenario does not stop.

Pricing checked
21 Oct 2026 · Vendor pricing page (opens in a new tab)
  • Credits became the billing unit on 27 August, according to the vendor's FAQ.
  • On 21 October 2026 the page showed one paid plan, "Make Plan", with a credit slider. An earlier read of the same page listed Core, Pro, Teams and Business tiers, so the plan names changed or the page differs by region. Only the $9 figure at 5,000 credits with annual billing was captured; the monthly-billing price was not.

Prices are shown as each vendor lists them. Where a vendor shows only a "$" sign, its page does not name the currency, and vendors may show a local currency or regional price. Confirm on the vendor's page before buying.
