Canva

Design and publishing suite with a free plan; background removal is moving in from remove.bg.

Verdict

Is Canva a fit for product images and decks if you want a free plan to start with?

The pricing page lists a free plan with 4.7+ million stock assets and 1.6+ million templates, and paid plans with 141+ million assets and 3.6+ million templates. A Canva-owned remove.bg page says its one-click background remover is part of Canva.

Who should consider it. Consider it if you want design, presentations and image clean-up under one login and are happy to read the plan table for the features you need.

Start here: first steps with Canva

Editorial guidance based on the vendor details we recorded. We have not tested Canva, and we do not describe its screens or settings.

Who should start with it
Creators and small teams who make social posts, presentations and product images in one place.
Before you create an account
  • Pick one real job, for example "Create presentations", and prepare invented or non-sensitive input for the first try.
  • Read the vendor's data and privacy terms. Our privacy review checklist lists what to look for.
  • Commercial-use terms: we have not verified them. Read the vendor's terms for the plan you will use.
Which plan to start with
Start on the free plan. The limits we recorded: 4.7+ million stock photos, graphics, fonts, videos and audio; 1.6+ million templates.
A first small task
Try a small version of a real case like this one: A seller who wants to clean up product photos and build a simple deck without paying first.
How to tell whether it helps
Time the job by hand first. Then record minutes taken, minutes of editing and anything the plan limits. Use the trial scorecard.
Common first-week mistakes
  • Adding seats before you know the tool works for you, or missing a seat minimum.
  • Building a routine on a free limit that resets daily or never, without checking which.
  • Putting private or customer data in before reading how the vendor handles it.
When to consider another tool
  • Anyone who needs per-plan feature certainty from this page alone: our capture lost the plan-by-plan ticks.
  • Teams that need a fixed monthly price: only yearly prices were captured.

Alternatives: Photoroom, Gamma. Reasons to switch.

What Canva actually does

  • Sells a free plan, Pro Lite, Pro and Business for individuals and teams, with Enterprise by contacting sales.
  • Lists 141+ million stock photos, graphics, fonts, videos and audio and 3.6+ million templates on paid plans, against 4.7+ million and 1.6+ million on Free.
  • Uses a shared AI allowance across Standard, Premium and Ultra AI tools, with an AI Pass add-on for Pro and Business.
  • Says remove.bg, a Canva brand, is moving its background removal into Canva and that remove.bg's standalone website closes on 1 December 2026.

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

Good fits

  • A seller who wants to clean up product photos and build a simple deck without paying first.

Scenarios are illustrative, based on plan limits and documented features.

Consider alternatives if

  • Anyone who needs per-plan feature certainty from this page alone: our capture lost the plan-by-plan ticks.
  • Teams that need a fixed monthly price: only yearly prices were captured.

Practical workflows

Illustrative: built from documented features, not from testing.

Choose the Canva plan before you design

Outcome: A plan that covers the assets and AI allowance you expect to use.

  1. Start on the Free plan and note which templates and assets you actually use.
  2. Open the plan comparison table and read the row for each feature you need, because our capture lost the per-plan ticks.
  3. Start a Pro Lite, Pro or Business trial only if a needed feature is missing from Free.
  4. Check whether the shared AI allowance covers your AI use before buying the AI Pass add-on.

  • AI Pass is an add-on for Pro and Business that the page says gives 40x (Pro) or 20x (Business) more AI allowance.

Prices are shown as each vendor lists them. Where a vendor shows only a "$" sign, its page does not name the currency, and vendors may show a local currency or regional price. Confirm on the vendor's page before buying.
